2018 Summer League

Commonwealth Lacrosse Director Chris Swanenburg will be overseeing a late summer program for boys entering grades 9-12 that combines training sessions with professionally officiated game play.

The program will be held for five consecutive Sundays (August 5, 12, 19, 26 and September 2) and run right into the traditional start of the fall sports and travel lacrosse seasons. All sessions will be held at the TowneBank Athletic Park in Newport News.

The format for each session will be as follows:

5:00 - 5:15 Stretch and Divide into Positional Groups
5:15 - 6:15 Small Group Training by Position
6:15 - 6:25 Water Break & Drafting of Teams
6:25 - 7:25 Officiated Game Play
7:25 - 7:30 Ball Hunt & Dismiss

The small group training will be intense with attackmen and midfielders focusing mainly on stickwork and shooting. Defensemen and goalies will concentrate primarily on footwork and stickwork.

At the conclusion of the training portion of the program, teams will be divided and professional officials will officiate an hour long game.

Coach Swanenburg was an All-Ivy goalie at Yale University and has twenty years of college coaching experience. He presently oversees the Peninsula Patriots boys travel lacrosse organization, which boasts the most competitive high school teams in the area. Patriot players have claimed eight of the last fifteen All-America spots allocated to the Hampton Roads region and numerous Patriot graduates are successfully competing at the college level.

The cost for the program is $125 and registration will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit an application and payment as soon as possible.

For more information, or should you have any questions, please contact Chris Swanenburg at (443) 690-7683 or at director@capitallacrosse.com.
